What Window Treatment Should I Use in My Bedroom?

Ripple Fold Curtains with Over Drapery - Option 1

The question is what window treatment should I use in my bedroom?  Well, here's the big question, how do you want your room to feel, and look?  What's your style?  What do you want to gain by adding window treatments to your bedroom windows?  Here's an option shown in the picture above where the layering of curtains and drapery can provide a cozy atmosphere to any room let alone your bedroom.  The beauty about fabric, there is something for everyone.  Various textures, colors, and patterns of fabrics are available.  The down fall I see in the picture above is light seeping through the top of the rod.  If you are a person that likes the room totally dark then this particular style is not for you.  Hmmm, how about a simple fix to this style? To eliminate the light seepage on top - add a board mounted top treatment.  For example a mini cornice or a bound mounted decorative valance.  Don't get me wrong this is only one option among many for custom window treatment.

Shutters - Option 2

Shutters can be made of wood, vinyl or composite material. Shown here in this picture is 100% wood. Normally the shutters louvre close tight enough to prevent light seepage. In this picture a roller shade was installed inside the window frame to maximize darkness in the room. This is a brilliant idea for a person like me who likes the room dark when I’m sleeping. Getting back to the question - what window treatments should I use in my bedroom? Is left totally up to the consumer. Some questions I like to ask my clients are:

  • Do you like the sun waking you up?

  • Do you want to hear people talking or cars traveling?

  • Do you like the room totally dark, not even a streak of light poking through?

  • Do you want the room extremely quiet, to the point where not even your own dog barking you’ll hear?

There’s something for everyone. Getting the “right” window coverings is only a matter of telling us what your preferences are.
