Custom Draperies for Your Home

Texture
The first step towards the perfect window treatments in your home is to decide the texture of the fabric that matches the mood of your room. For formal spaces, such as a formal dining room or living room you may want to choose a heavy silk or a velvet fabric. There are also silky rayon blends and cotton satteen. For a casual mood, you can choose a billowy linen or crinkly crushed velvet. Cotton and cotton blends work well with any type of decor to bring a neat a crisp feel to a room.
Solid Colors
When choosing a solid color fabric, you need to decide if you want to blend your window coverings with your decor or if you want them to pop. Blending colors works well when you use the same tones in your room but in a few shades darker. You can also just pick up one non-dominant color to use on your draperies. A bold color gives you the wow factor with a pop of color.
Prints and Patterns
If you have patterned furniture, bedding, or an elaborate rug in a room, it is best to stick to a solid color. However, if your room has an all over solid color in it, then patterned curtains are the way to go. For subtle style and energy, you may go for a natural small print such as dots or a paisley. A large graphic print in a color that matches the decor can be really spectacular and eye-catching in any room.
Drapery Styles
You can choose from a huge variety of pleats for your drapery or curtain panels. The flat drapery pleat is very simplistic. It is finished with a buckram tape at the top to keep the panel firm and it attaches with drapery hooks.
The pinch pleat is also called a French Drapery Pleat and it is classic in the style. The drapery fabric is formed into a three-finger flute at the top to provide fullness down the length of the panels.
The Parisian drapery pleat is the same as the French pleat, but the pleat is tacked together at the top of the flute.
The goblet pleat works well in a formal room. It is gathered in the area that is a few inches from the top to appear like a rounded goblet on top with a stem on the bottom.
Other types of styles come in many variations of each style including the box pleat, a grommet top, a floppy pleat and a rod pocket.
